Gold medals are generally given in various sporting events as a token of recognition of one’s achievements.
The history of gold medals shows that in middle ages it was given as a token of bravery and gallantry for knighthood. This tradition still continues in the present-day as military honors often include gold medals. With the passage of time, this tradition of presenting medals and citations was adopted by the Olympic Games. Olympic Games were the first ever sporting event that was known for providing appreciation to talented players. However, it was only in the year 1904 that Olympic Games introduced three medals as gold, silver and bronze. Other events where gold medals are given to commend one’s contribution to society are Nobel Prize. In Nobel Prize, the medal is made of pure gold however, the gold medal that is given in but are alloys of copper and silver that is coated with alloy.
Irrespective of the event, gold medals appreciate the work that is done by the receiver in his respective field.
It is a medium of showing one’s gratitude to an individual for his contribution or success. Therefore, the respect and adoration a medal consists is immaterial to its price. These gold medals come in various shapes and sizes as they have embossed name of the organization/foundation that is presenting it. These medals are given for scientific, athletic, military, academic and other achievements. Thus, the respect and awe that is found in a gold medal makes it intangibly priceless.
